What can I apply to the windshield to repel water?
How do you keep water and dirt off your windshield?
Each glass surface is water repellent by definition. But even if the glass looks smooth with the naked eye, under the microscope is full of cracks, layers and rough particles. They are the reason why the water does not drain smooth from the glass. They also make the dirt stick much harder to the surface. They fill these small cracks. With ordinary glass cleaners, these cracks are difficult to clean.
To make it easier for water to bounce off the glass (windshield, side, rear or roof), these micro-cracks need to be filled. Caprotect glass protection fills micro-cracks with the help of nanotechnology. The active ingredients in the product are broken down to nano size and as such can enter cracks.
This allows for a smooth glass surface even under a microscope. Water bounces off easier and faster, and dirt does not "burn" to the surface. So, it is much easier to remove.
What is the best windshield protection?
Today you can find two types of protection for any surface. One type are coatings (waxes), which make a protective film on the surface and thus protect the surface. Others, broken into nano particles, enter the material and protect it from the inside. This type of protection is called impregnation.
For longevity of the protection on windshields, we recommend impregnation. Windshields are regularly "scraped" by wipers, and waxes are much faster scraped off. As impregnation works from the inside, it will last longer.
Are all impregnations of the same quality?
You can buy the impregnation of different price ranges. If you use cheap impregnation is not applied correctly, the effect will be worse than if you kept the glass unprotected. The use of wipers will leave marks, a greasy look and blurred glass. This will further slow down the draining of water. The effect will be exactly the opposite of what you were expecting.
You can check the quality of the impregnation only in practice. Often the only assessment is the manufacturer's claim of durability. But even if you buy the highest quality impregnation and fail to properly prepare the surface, the effect will be catastrophic. Thus, read and follow the instructions. Can you put ceramic coating on windshield?
Ceramic coatings provide excellent protection for surfaces. Liquid ceramic coatings form a glass-like protection on the surface of the glass. It protects the surface from scratches, dirt and acids. As the ceramic coating creates a glass-like film, it offers no extra effect when applied to glass. Unless the glass is old and tired. We apply nano impregnation on ceramic protection additionally. It offers additional hydrophobic and oleophobic protection.
Another advantage of nano impregnation is its cost. Ceramic coatings are more expensive than nano Imprägnation. So, we recommend them for all surfaces but glass. However, it does not mean you can not use it on glass.
What happens when rain repellents fail?
This topic usually don't come into discussion and on blogs. Although, it is a crucial factor when deciding among different glass protections. All protections will eventually wear off . When there, performance will go from “better than bare glass” to much much worse.
Once the protection begins to wear off, it becomes very inconsistent across the windshield. It stops repelling water. Worse, it also creates marks, greasy look and blurred glass effect.
This is not only incredibly irritating but dangerous as well. Don't take this easily as we all forget to reapply the protection on time. Usually, we find this out only when it's already to late and rain is pouring down. Furthermore, you can not reapply the protection in the rain so you will have to withstand the conditions.
